Contact your college's office of admissions to obtain all necessary forms and guidelines for re-entering the college.
Begin composing your re-entry letter: Introduce yourself with your full name, matriculation year and reasons for leaving the college. If you were asked to leave the college, explain in an apologetic, respectful tone the reasons that your grades were poor or you acted inappropriately.
Explain, in one or two paragraphs, the productive ways you occupied yourself during your time away. This paragraph could include jobs or volunteer work you were involved in, classes you took or special projects you completed. If you took time off for family reasons, explain that you needed to care for your family and that the situation is now stable enough for you to return.
Describe, in a single paragraph, any rehabilitation you have participated in during your time off. This section is only necessary if you were forced to leave school, or if you left school for personal mental or physical health issues. Explain that you have been seeing a doctor/therapist/tutor or other professional, and the physical/mental/academic issues you experienced in the past are now stable enough for you to return to school. Some colleges will ask you to include a letter from your doctor or therapist verifying your current state.
Explain, in the last paragraph, your plans for successfully returning to school and completing your program. Express your willingness to participate in tutoring, therapy or any other support services appropriate for your situation to prevent the situation from occurring again. Describe what you liked about the college and your program, and express your enthusiasm for going back to school.
Complete all other required forms and submit them along with your letter. The Office of Admissions may not consider an incomplete application.
