Fine-tune your topic. In many cases, essays are assigned with a topic. But if you are looking for a topic, choose a subject you are knowledgeable about and feel strongly about. Back your opinion with facts, and be specific.
Begin creatively. The first sentence and paragraph are essential to hook the reader and clarify what you hope to state in your essay. Lure the reader in and state your position immediately.
Create supporting arguments/statements. State your opinion and support it with back-up statements. Other ways to keep your essay engaging is to create paragraphs as needed. Transition words, such as "next" or "finally" are great for beginning sentences and organizing your ideas.
Close it powerfully. Do not simply end your thoughts. Summarize them, and add a powerful statement. This is especially important for writing college or school entrance essays because the essay differentiates you from other applicants. Be distinctive in what you say, and offer more than a summary of the essay.
