Brainstorm specific experiences that have led you to apply to the program or work in the field. These can be very personal experiences.
List any challenges you have overcome to qualify to attend this program. This can include a disability, a poor home life, economic circumstances or serious health conditions. When you write about these challenges, be sure to elaborate on how they will help you succeed in the program.
Focus on either the experiences that have led you to the program or on the challenges you have faced getting there. Some of these can be combined. For example, if you are planning on going to medical school because you had cancer as a child, you can work both of these into one letter.
Outline the letter. It should have a clear statement of purpose that tells why you want to be part of the program and also gives supporting information about your life and decision to enter the field.
Write the letter following your outline.
Proofread the letter for grammar and spelling. Have a friend or teacher look over the letter to check for clarity.
