How to Give Instructions on Activities

Providing instructions to a group of children or adults is important before proceeding with an activity. Clearly defining how to complete a task helps kids and adults achieve fine results once the task is completed. Give instruction on activities to a large or small group for better understanding of a task. Provide the group with written and oral information on the activity to clarify how to finish the task and achieve a decent outcome.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the instructions for the activity in a word processing program. Select a font that is easy to read, such as Arial or Times New Roman. Also select a point size that is large enough to read, such as 12 or 14 point. Print copies of the instructions and place the instruction sheets inside the envelope.

    • 2

Prepare all props and items needed to demonstrate the activity. Place all props and instruction sheets inside the plastic tub, allowing you to carry the items to the location where instructions on the activity will be given.

    • 3

Organize the group of kids or adults the instructions will be given to in front of you. Hand each person in the group a copy of the instruction sheet to allow each person to follow along with you during the demonstration. Give the group five minutes to read the instructions on the paper.

    • 4

Ask the group for their full attention and complete silence after the five minutes have passed. Instruct taller people in the group to stand in the back of the group, allowing everyone in the group to see the demonstration clearly. Ask the group to hold questions about the activity until the demonstration is completed.

    • 5

Demonstrate the activity in front of the group in the order the instructions are presented on the sheet to prevent confusion. Use the props in the tub to demonstrate the task. Once the demonstration is completed, take questions from the group and provide assistance while each person completes the task.
