Produce your chart and save it in a format compatible with the word processing program in which you type your manuscript, using professional-level graphics software. If your chart requires a legend to explain the symbols used, place it within the chart graphic. Use a sans-serif font between eight and 14 points in size for all text in the chart.
Insert the chart on a new page at the end of the manuscript, after the references and any footnotes, unless you are specifically instructed to insert the chart within the manuscript text. Either copy and paste the chart image into the manuscript, or use the "insert image" or "insert picture" function in your word processor and navigate to the folder where you saved the image.
Size the chart as large as possible while leaving room for the caption and staying within the 1-inch page margins. In most word processing programs, click anywhere on the image to select it, then click and drag a corner of the image to resize it.
Type the words "Figure x." in italics beneath the chart. "X" represents the figure number, so type 1 if it is the first figure, for example. Caption the chart immediately after the figure number, on the same line of text in regular font; give a concise but thorough explanation of the contents of the chart.
