Community Colleges in Santa Monica

There are a variety of things to do in Santa Monica. For instance, you can attend one of the 75 art galleries and museums or you can participate in beach side gymnastics and volleyball. However, Santa Monica is also a haven for people seeking a higher education. There are also a number of diverse community colleges in Santa Monica where you can obtain a degree in an array of majors like culinary arts, fashion design or health care.
  1. Santa Monica College

    • Santa Monica College (SMC) provides you with approximately 80 academic programs to choose from. Credits you earn in academic programs like fashion design, health sciences, business and computer science are easily transferable to 4-year institutions. In addition, you can graduate from SMC with certificates and associate's degrees.

      You can attend classes at the campus or study online or through distance education courses.

      If you're interested in attending SMC, you can apply online.

      For individuals who have ever been disqualified from a college and want to apply to SMC, there is an additional form to fill out. The Petition for Readmission must be completed and sent in with your application. Also, you'll need to provide official copies of the transcripts from the college you were disqualified from.

      SMC is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

    The Art Institute of California- Los Angeles

    • If you're interested in visual or culinary arts, you probably want to consider the Art Institute of California- Los Angeles, located in Santa Monica. The college offers diplomas, associates and bachelors degrees in cooking, graphic design, audio production, fashion design, game art and design, and media arts and animation.

      The Art Institute prepares you for entry-level employment while helping you to strengthen your skills and develop your creative talents.

      Courses are offered year-round so you won't have to stop for summer break like you would at other community colleges.

      There are several admission requirements you'll have to meet before you can start your educational career at the Institute. Basic requirements include an interview with the school, a 150-word essay, a completed application form and your transcripts. Also, you'll have to pay an enrollment and non-refundable application fee.

    Santa Monica College: Emeritus

    • This college is for seniors, or older adults, interested in continuing postsecondary education. It offers classes in computer training, music, photography, theater, health, business and home arts and maintenance.

      To apply, you must fill out the student application form. Once accepted, you'll primarily enroll for classes online. However, the college does accept paper enrollment forms that are mailed or taken to the college office.
