Texas A&M University, Galveston (TAMUG) has a Marine Biology Department that offers a marine biology undergraduate degree. Located on the gulf coast city of Galveston, Texas, TAMUG's program has a unique advantage over other marine biology programs in the country because it has access to marine and estuarine ecosystems all year long. Because Galveston also offers seagrass meadows, oyster reefs, rocky intertidal zones, coastal waters, and open surf, students at TAMUG are able to conduct intensive field studies. Admission to TAMUG is favors applicants who have completed high school or have an equivalent certification and have taken either the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) offers a marine biology program which, through both lecture and laboratory work. leads to a B.S. degree in marine biology. UCSC's location in Santa Cruz, California, gives students the opportunity to work with marine ecosystems such as rocky intertidal, beaches, estuaries, coral reefs, near-shore open ocean, and kelp forests. UCSC recommends that students interested in the marine biology program study biology, advanced mathematics, physics, and chemistry in high school or at their community colleges. The marine biology program at UCSC also offers a verity of study abroad programs in countries such as Costa Rica, New Zealand and Australia.

NOVA Southeastern University (NSU) in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, has a Division of Math, Science and Technology which offers a marine biology program designed to give students an undergraduate degree in the field of marine biology. For those interested in continuing to postgraduate studies in the same field, NSU, in a partnership with the Oceanographic Center, offers a combined "bachelor's-master's program," which allows students to obtain both degrees concurrently. NSU graduates in marine biology have gone on to successful careers in fields such as education, aquaculture, oceanographic research, and environmental monitoring.
