Draft your news-style article. Keep in mind, that writing is recursive, and it has steps. News articles are written in a style that grasp the reader’s attention and give them major points first.
Put your main point on top. This is commonly called the lede or hook. This is how you will encourage your readers to keep reading.
Answer the 5Ws: who, what, when, why and how. When writing news articles, you must relay to your readers why you article matters. To tell a good story, you need to answer these basic questions.
Write to your reader. Use active personal voice and avoid jargon.
Remain objective. News articles are often delivered by an objective third party. If your article is to remain credible, you must not offer a one-sided view of a particular issue. Cover both sides of the story.
Adhere to APA style guidelines. You can get a copy of the APA 6th edition manual in bookstores or at your local library. Online resources such as Purdue OWL also offer extensive information on APA formatting.
Pay attention to how you set up your title page, in-text citations and reference page. Only your title page should have the words “Running head.”
Check your paper format against a sample APA paper.
