How to Sell Older Textbooks

If you are done with your fall, spring or summer semester at your college and want to get some money back on your old textbooks by reselling them, there are a variety of ways to sell your textbooks. Once you've resold your textbooks, you can use the money that you receive to buy your next set of textbooks or whatever you desire.

Sell back your old textbooks at the college bookstore. If you purchase your textbook at the college bookstore, the college usually, has an option to buy back your books from you at a particular percentage or price. The textbook, however, will need to be a book that will be used by the college professors in upcoming semesters. Talk to one of the associates in the bookstore to get more information about selling your old textbooks back to them after each semester.

Create an account with eBay, which has a large audience and easy selling format. You want to compare the prices of your particular textbook with textbooks that are the same or similar to yours. Then create a selling page for your textbook. Post your textbook page and wait for a buyer to purchase right away through the "Buy It Now" option or have buyers place a bid on your book to see if you will sell more (see Resources). There is an insertion fee and then a final value fee when your item sells.

Go to the "Amazon.com/buyback" link and find your particular textbook by title, author, keyword or ISBN. Ship your old textbooks to Amazon.com at no cost to you, and in return, you will receive an Amazon.com Gift Card to shop on their website (see Resources below).
