GED Requirements for Forsyth Tech College

Forsyth Tech is a community college in Winston-Salem, North Carolina that opened its doors in 1960. It is a cost-effective educational avenue for acquiring a General Educational Development (GED) degree. They also offer two-year Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degrees. In addition, there is a focus on corporate and skilled trade training, personal enrichment and continuing educational classes, along with the opportunity for college transfer; career counseling and financial aid are also offered.

    • It is crucial to have a high school diploma to ensure having a viable career. Sometimes there are unfortunate circumstances beyond a person's control that make it difficult to stay in school; therefore, obtaining a GED is an excellent avenue for getting a verified diploma from the State Board of the North Carolina Community College System at a cost of $7.50.

    Requirements

    • The GED requirements include attending the orientation, and you must be a minimum of 16 years old to enroll in classes. The classes are three hours long and are held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 9:00 am, 1:30 pm or 6 pm. The orientation requirements are that each student must participate each of the three days at the same time. Tardiness will not be tolerated and students will be asked to leave the class.

    Necessary Documents

    • The signed Social Security card must be brought to the initial orientation, along with a photo ID that was issued by the state or government. It may not be a copy or a work or school identification. Minors who are 16 and 17 years old must bring the same information, and must also sign a minor release form and a disciplinary disclosure form. These can be downloaded or picked up on the campus.

    Tests

    • There are five areas that the GED testing includes: Social Studies, Mathematics, Language Arts Reading, Language Arts Writing and Science. A minimum score of 410 on each of these tests is required, bringing it to the complete score of 2050. At this point, the official equivalency high school diploma is issued by the Community College System's state board.
