Transportation Design Schools

Students enrolled in a transportation design program learn how to design automobiles and motorcycles to be stylish, efficient and ergonomically comfortable, while being functional and marketable. A combination of engineering and business programs, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Transportation Design must come from an institution recognized by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Several accredited colleges offer Industrial Design Programs around the United States.
  1. Academy of Art University

    • Founded in San Fransisco in 1929, the Academy of Art University's School of Industrial Design offers both a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts. Students are not required to possess any experience in art or design prior to enrolling, and can apply for admission year-round. Students must provide their high school transcripts or General Education Development (GED), completed application form, application fee and portfolio (if available) as part of the application process.

    College of Creative Design

    • Located in Detroit, Michigan, the College of Creative Design's (CCS) Industrial Design Department gives students the technical and creative education necessary to work in the automotive design industry. First-year students can enroll in courses from their chosen department to concentrate their studies in one area from the beginning. The Industrial Design Department emphasizes technical skill, aesthetic sensibility, conceptual ability and practical experience to provide a multifaceted education to students. Prospective students must submit their high school transcripts with a minimum 2.5 GPA or GED with a minimum 401 composite score, ACT or SAT scores, minimum ten-piece portfolio, and application form and fee by the required deadline.

    Art Center College of Design

    • The Art Center College of Design's Department of Transportation Design offers a Bachelor of Science in Transportation Design for students who attend the Pasadena campus. The program emphasizes sustainable mobility, product life cycle, styling, comfort, safety and reliability in automobile, motorcycle, marine, aircraft, commercial transport, personal mobility and public transit design. To apply, students must submit a completed application, application fee, high school transcripts or GED, SAT or ACT scores and a portfolio of original work.

    Savannah School of Art and Design

    • The Savannah School of Art and Design's Industrial Design Program offers both a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts. The program focuses on teaching students cognitive thinking, design inquiry and creative problem-solving skills by assigning coursework that mirrors a professional work environment. Incoming students must provide high school transcripts or GED, completed application form and fee. No portfolio or previous design experience is necessary for admission.
