The APA is the American Psychological Association. Often if you want to publish a research paper or other text in professional publications, you may be required to use the APA's formatting preferences for the text. Professional publications use this standard format so all papers follow one set of rules to avoid confusion that could come if each paper is formatted differently. As such, the APA has specific citations for tables and figures. Failure to follow this format could lead to a professional publication rejecting your paper for publication.

1
Delete the table heading. In APA format, the table heading is at the top of the table and takes up two lines.
-
2
Type "Figure" at the bottom of your figure and then the figure number followed by a period. For example, if you had figure 1 then you would type "Figure 1."
-

3
Type your figure's title after the figure number. Capitalize the first word after Figure 1. Do not change lines as you did with the table heading. The figure title stays on the same line as your figure number.
