The Cardiac and Vascular Institute of Ultrasound (CVIU) in Mobile, Alabama, prepares students to work as ultrasound sonographers specializing in the cardiac or vascular fields. Students receive the training and clinical skills they need to qualify for entry-level positions and to become registered sonographers through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). The program includes six months of classroom instruction and six months of on the job training. Students take courses in Echocardiography, Ultrasound Physics and Patient Care. CVIU offers students payment plans, financial assistance and loans.

Sanford-Brown College offers a Cardiovascular Sonography/Technology program at its Atlanta campus. The program offers students an opportunity to learn about a variety of duties typically performed by cardiovascular technologists such as holter monitoring and echocardiography. Students enrolled in the program participate in an externship program in addition to their on-campus courses. Graduates are able to qualify for jobs as lab, echocardiography and emergency room technicians. The school is accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and offers students several tuition financing options, scholarships and grants.

Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the Southeast Technical Institute (STI) offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Cardiac Ultrasound Technology. The degree program requires students to complete basic courses such as Anatomy and Patient Care Techniques in addition to their cardiovascular studies. Students also have the opportunity to practice their skills as they complete the clinical portion of their degree program. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. STI makes grants, scholarships, loans and a federal work study program available to students who need tuition assistance (see reference 9).

The Mayo School of Health Sciences offers an accredited echocardiography program at its Scottsdale, Arizona, and Rochester, Minnesota, campuses. The certificate program takes 18 months to complete and requires students to attend full-time. Students learn through a combination of lectures and clinical experience. The school offers loans, grants and other types of financial assistance to students who qualify and only admits a limited number of students at each campus. Graduates are qualified to take their certification exams and may be hired to work at the Mayo Clinic.
