With campuses in eight locations across northern and southern California, Western Career College offers a dental hygiene program to prepare students for the workplace. Coursework includes instruction and training in oral health assessment, plaque, tartar and stain removal, x-rays, local anesthesia administration, fluoride application, instruction in oral hygiene and dietary counseling.
Graduates will also be prepared to take national and regional clinical exams for license completion. The school is accredited by the "Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges." However, the dental hygienist program does not offer any certificates or degrees, the program is meant as a certification preparatory course of study.

Briarwood College's Dental Hygiene Program, part of the Lincoln College of New England in Connecticut, prepares students to administer a wide range of oral health services. Students will find training in prevention and detection of oral disease as they complete courses in oral pathology, clinical work and dental radiology as well as oral health education and counseling for nutrition.
Students will also learn the role of the dental hygienist, and learn how to assess and respond to the needs of the patients. The dental hygiene program at Briarwood is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Completion of the program requires 96 course credit hours and leads to an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene.

At the Tri-State Business Institute in Erie, Pennsylvania, located in northwest Pennsylvania, students can learn the tasks and duties of a dental hygienist. Students will learn how to teach patients good oral hygiene practices, examine gums and teeth, record dental abnormalities, remove plaque and stains, take and develop x-rays, apply fluorides to patients and administer anesthetics.
When students have completed training, they can go on to take national and regional certification examinations and be prepared for a career as a dental hygienist. Students will also learn resume preparation, interview tips and job skills. The Tri-State Business Institute dental hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, and students can become accredited dental hygienists upon completion of the program.
