Connecticut Vocational Schools

Vocational colleges, sometimes referred to as trade schools, offer specialized training in specific areas, such as mechanics, computers or cosmetology. There are many types of vocational schools. Some focus on one area of expertise while others offer multiple fields of study.
  1. Branford Hall Career Institute

    • Branford Hall Career Institute has campuses in Branford, Southington and Windsor, Connecticut, in addition to campuses in Massachusetts and New York. According to the school's website, it was founded and incorporated as a business in 1965 by Nelson Bernabucci.
      Today the Branford location offers courses in professional fitness training, computer networking management and paralegal training. It also has three health programs: massage therapy, health claims and medical assisting. The Southington and Windsor campuses also offer medical assistant programs.

    Porter and Chester Institute

    • Porter and Chester Institute's main campus is in Stratford, Connecticut. There are four other Connecticut locations in Branford, Enfield, Rocky Hill and Watertown. According to its website, the school was created in 1973 when the Porter School and the Chester Institute for Technical Education merged, hence the name.
      Programs at the Porter and Chester Institute include automotive technology, computer-aided drafting and design, computer technology, electrician training (including industrial, residential and commercial), heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration training, medical assistant programs, dental assistant programs and practical nursing programs.

    The Sawyer School

    • While its main campus is located in Rhode Island, the Sawyer School has two locations in Connecticut--one in Hamden and the other in Hartford. According to the school's website, it promotes success through smaller classes and individualized attention aimed at providing long-term results in a short time frame. Students are offered hands-on training in allied health and business fields. The school has both day and night classes as well as a graduate placement service.

    Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy

    • The Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy opened in 1980. The school has three campuses. The main campus is in Newington, with others in Westport and Groton. The Newington school offers both full-time and part-time massage therapy programs, while the Westport campus has a part-time clinical massage therapy program and the Groton campus has a part-time spa massage therapy program.
      The Steiner Education Group owns the three CCMT locations, along with 14 other massage therapy schools in eight other states.
