Medical Encoding Schools

Medical encoding, or coding -- the transformation of medical terms into alphanumeric designations -- is necessary to accommodate reimbursement by insurance companies for health-care services. Coders, also called billing specialists, work in doctors' offices and hospitals, and must be knowledgeable of health-care delivery systems and terminology. Certification is not required but will bring a higher salary, and several options are available for training to be a medical coder.
