California Vocational or Trade Schools

California vocational schools, also sometimes known as trade schools, prepare students for a particular career in as little time possible without requiring liberal arts credits. Many of these schools operate as departments within community colleges universities. Admission to most California vocational schools requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

    • Los Angeles Trade and Technical College is a community college located in Los Angles, California. It services the entire 882-square-mile area of the Los Angeles Community College District. The school awards Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees as well as completion certificates in vocational programs. Like all community colleges in the Los Angeles district, degrees awarded by this school are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Community and Junior Colleges. Two-thirds of the facilities on the 25-acre campus are dedicated to career- or vocation-oriented education. The campus also has athletic facilities and a grand theatre.

    The Northern California Vocational College

    • The Northern California Vocational College is located in San Jose, California. It offers course programs in nursing, electronic technician, cosmetology, physical therapy and construction. This school offers flexible education options with day, night, and weekend courses. Admission to this school requires a personal interview with faculty and completion of an enrollment questionnaire. Class sizes at this school are relatively small, so the admissions department recommends applying and enrolling at least one or two weeks prior to the beginning of classes. Spots in classes are given out on a first come, first served basis.

    The Art Institute of California

    • The Art Institute is an organization which operates trade-related colleges across the United States. This group has campuses in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County and San Francisco, California. The school offers degrees in culinary arts, design, fashion, media arts and general education. It awards both associate's and bachelor's degrees. It also has flexible degree options for current working professionals, with night and weekend classes available.

      The Art Institute of California is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology. It is also licensed by the California Bureau of Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Education. The school's Associate of Science Degree in Culinary Arts in independently accredited by the Accrediting Culinary Federation Education Foundation.
