    • Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) has three campuses around the state. In northern Wisconsin, at the Sturgeon Bay campus, NWTC offers a diesel and heavy equipment technician certificate program that is ASE-certified according to the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) standards. Coursework includes diesel engine repair, engine systems driveline, steering, brakes and hydraulic systems. This 65-credit certificate program takes two years to complete. Applicants must have a high school diploma and pass a placement test to gain admission.

    Gateway Technical College

    • The Gateway Technical College Horizon Center for Transportation Technology is a special training center that is an extension of Gateway Technical College. Located in north Wisconsin in Strugeon Bay, the center offers two fully accredited diesel technician programs; a two-year, 70-credit diesel technology program; and a one-year, 35-credit diesel equipment technician program. Classes include diesel maintenance fundamentals, diesel engine service, diesel brake systems, diesel control systems and diesel fuel systems. Students must pass a placement test and complete all of the necessary prerequisites to enroll in these programs.

    Madison Area Technical College

    • Madison Area Technical College has multiple campuses in the Madison, Wisconsin, area. The Truax campus offers a fully accredited diesel and heavy equipment technician program that takes two years to complete. This certificate program is certified by NATEF/ASE and holds master certification in medium/heavy duty trucks. Courses include an introduction to diesel technology, medium and heavy-duty transmissions, metal repair techniques, customer relations, technical physics and diesel electrical fundamentals. Graduates may take the certification examination to become an ASE-certified diesel technician.
