Students who attend the Art Institute of Dallas can earn their associate of applied arts degree or bachelor of fine arts in fashion design. According to artinstitutes.edu, fashion design students can expect to learn basic skills of construction in sewing, flat pattern drafting, draping, business practices, marketing and client relations. The associate degree program lasts seven quarters, and the bachelor's program lasts 12 quarters. Students will also take classes that include drawing, pattern making, textiles and the fashion industry. They will have the chance to present their clothes in fashion shows and competitions. The Art Institute also provides a bachelor of fine arts degree in fashion and retail management.

The International Academy of Design and Technology (IADT), San Antonio offers a fashion design and merchandising training program that will prepare students for a career in fashion design. The IADT fashion program will teach students the elements of fashion design as well as business practices. The fashion design program provided at Wade College immerses students in a hands-on environment. Courses include art appreciation, fashion design, sketching, textiles, principles of marketing, composition, principles of management, business law, visual merchandising and planning and portfolio design. At the end of the degree program, students work on a collection and enter the Wage College Professional Portfolio Critique Presentation. Faculty and students judge the collections and select their favorites. Students will have a professional portfolio to take out into the fashion world after graduation.
