The radiologic technology program at LIU/C. W. Post Campus began in 1973. Students start this program at different levels and have different admission requirements. Graduates of hospital-based programs come to earn their bachelor's and enter at the junior level. All students must have 64 academic credits in liberal arts and sciences before they begin the professional part of the program. The accredited four-year program prepares students to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination in radiography. Achieving a grade above 75 on the exam gives the student eligibility for licensing by the state of New York.

Affiliated with the State University of New York Health Sciences at Brooklyn, Long Island University Hospital is a 601 bed teaching hospital. To prepare students for a career in radiologic sciences, LICH offers a two-year accredited program. It includes some specialty training in magnetic resonance imaging. Applications to the program are only accepted during the first quarter of every calendar year. The admissions process includes an entrance exam. Program graduates qualify for the ARRT exam.

Nassau Community College's radiologic technology program involves two full years of study. At the completion of the program, the graduate is prepared for an entry level position in the field or for continuing their education to earn a bachelor's degree. The accredited program includes classroom, laboratory and clinical studies.

Before applying to Mercy's program, the candidate must have completed 24 credits of basic college courses in math, english, humanities, science and social science. The accredited program requires a full two years of study that combine classroom and clinical work. Graduates receive a certificate for completing the program and are eligible to take the national ARRT exam.
