Long Island Law Schools

As one of the most heavily populated islands in the world, Long Island offers a wide range of scholastic opportunities. Some colleges and universities on the island have campuses that serve as law schools, including Touro College, Hofstra University, Brooklyn Law School and City University of New York School of Law. There are many other schools that are not primarily law schools, but offer branches of law including criminology, criminal justice and criminal law.
  1. Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, Touro College

    • Founded in 1980, the Touro College Law Center teaches both academic theory and legal practice, focusing on workings of the courts, court-related agencies and legal service providers. First-year students spend time in the Court Observation Program. More than 40 full-time members make up the faculty.

    Hofstra University School of Law

    • Hofstra University offers both J.D. and LL.M. degrees, as well as joint J.D./M.B.A. and joint J.D./M.A. programs. There is a year-round study period that includes international programs, skills programs, externships, and studying abroad. Nearly 200 courses are offered with more than 100 full-time and adjunct faculty members. The school was founded in 1970.

    Brooklyn Law School

    • Brooklyn Law School offers in-depth study of many law concentrations. Interdisciplinary instruction in traditional and emerging fields creates a rounded base of study that is supplemented by clinics and international programs that provide opportunities to study abroad. Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is led by more than 60 faculty members who specialize in many different areas of law.

    City University of New York School of Law

    • Founded in 1983, CUNY School of Law consistently is in the top 10 law schools in the country in clinical training in public interest law, according to "The National Jurist" magazine. Primarily focusing on this branch of law, the school hires professors and admits students who have demonstrated experience in this area. CUNY prepares students for practice with instruction in critical theory, lawyering, legal doctrine and professional ethics.
