Baylor College of Dentistry is a part of the Texas A&M Health Center. The college offers two degrees related to dental hygiene--a bachelor of science and a master of science. Bachelor-level students typically attend the program full time, but the school is able to offer modified schedules to students who need to attend part time. In addition to taking dental hygiene-specific courses, students also complete work in areas that include biology, chemistry and psychology. Students in the graduate program can choose between tracks in teaching and administration.

Collin College offers a two-year dental hygiene program in north Dallas. The associate of applied science degree program begins each fall and can be completed on a full- or part-time basis. Program courses include anatomy and physiology, pharmocology for the dental hygienist, and preventive dental hygiene care. Beginning in their second semester, students complete a clinical experience concurrent with their classwork. Applicants must submit personal health records to show good physical and mental health status, and students are required to carry health insurance during the program.

Tarrant County College has a dental hygiene program in Fort Worth, just west of Dallas. The school's two-year program awards an associate of applied science degree. During their studies, students will complete classroom work as well as hands-on patient care beginning in their second semester. Required classes include dental radiology, dental materials and community dentistry. Applicants should be current with a variety of immunizations, be CPR certified and carry health insurance.

Texas Woman's University is a coed institution with campuses in Dallas, Houston and Denton. The Denton campus, about 40 miles from downtown Dallas, offers a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene. Students are admitted into the program at the start their junior year. Required courses include applied oral radiology, pharmacology for dental hygiene and dental materials, and all students also complete four clinical rotations. Students who already hold an associate's degree in dental hygiene can complete the final two years of the bachelor's program online; up to 90 units can be transferred into the program.
