Black Belt Certification Requirements

Six Sigma is a business management strategy that uses a belt system similar to martial arts to define the level of advancement through the program. The Black Belt certification is the pinnacle of the Six Sigma training program, and develops critical skills in organization and project management.
  1. Projects

    • Finish two completed projects with signed affidavits, such as: projects that measure the cost benefit of improving substandard production processes.

    Know How

    • Explain six sigma philosophies and principles, as well as the impact they have within the organization. Understand the leadership roles within six sigma organizations. Define customer requirements and how six sigma projects affect customers. Understand how time management, planning, and team work are used in management teams, and the elements of a project charter. Know how to use customer feedback to the customer's advantage. Display a basic understanding of data collection techniques, measurements systems and probability concepts and distributions. Know how to do statistical and process capability calculations; analyze correlation and regression results; interpret variable study results and interpret the data; define multivariate tools; and perform hypothesis testing.

    Testing

    • Pass a four-hour written examination consisting of 150 multiple-choice questions.
