How many students study abroad?

In 2019, over 6 million students studied abroad, according to the Institute of International Education's (IIE) Open Doors report. This number has been growing steadily in recent years, with the number of students studying abroad increasing by over 10% between 2017 and 2019. The United States remains the top destination for international students, with over 1 million international students enrolled in American universities in 2018-19. Other popular destinations include the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Germany.
