The Best Engineering Colleges in Asia

Although many students from Asia go to the West for higher education, more and more Asian universities are becoming top-flight institutions. In a report published by the U.S. News & World Report in 2010, four Asian colleges were ranked among the top 20 colleges and universities for engineering worldwide.
  1. University of Tokyo

    • The University of Tokyo is rated No. 6 on the U.S. News list. The University has about 6,000 staff members and 14,000 students, several hundred of which are international exchange students. The university offers undergraduate degrees in engineering, including chemical engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, mechano-informatics, mathematical engineering and information physics, urban engineering, engineering synthesis, and aeronautics and astronatuics.

    Tsinghua University

    • Tsinghua University is located in the northwest part of Beijing on the former gardens of the Qing Dynasty. It ranks No. 13 on the U.S. News & World Report list. The school was founded in 1911 under a different name, but has been known by its current name since 1928. The school has 4,000 faculty members and 28,000 students, almost evenly divided between undergraduate and graduate students. The school offers a wide range of engineering programs, including electronic and electrical engineering, engineering physics, biomedical engineering, and water supply and drain engineering.

    National University of Singapore

    • The National University of Singapore has three locations in and around the city. It hosts 28,000 students from 80 countries, with 20,000 undergraduate students and 7,000 graduate students. On the U.S. News list, this school was No. 14. The university offers many engineering programs, including chemical engineering, civil engineering, bioengineering, environmental science and engineering, mechanical engineering and industrial and systems engineering.
