How to Study Law in Denmark

Studying law at a Denmark university requires many of the same application criteria as law schools throughout the world. Denmark has three law schools, all of which accept international students for bachelors, master's and Ph.D. law degrees. For non-European Union citizens, several additional application procedures must be fulfilled to study law in Denmark, including applying as a foreign student and arranging for a student residence permit with the Danish Immigration Service.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide to which law school you want to apply. The Danish law universities that accept foreign students are The University of Aarhus, The University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen Business School. Once you have decided what school you would like to attend, you need to follow that school's specific admissions criteria.

    • 2

Read the admissions criteria. In each school, you will need some or all of the following documents: a completed admissions application, certified copies of your diplomas and transcripts, a ranking of your bachelors or law degree from your home institution (if applying for a masters or Ph.D. in law), a copy of your passport and residence permit, and documentation of your English or Danish language proficiency.

    • 3

Submit the required documents as specified by your school of choice. Make sure you pay attention to the school's required submission guidelines and dates, and pay the application fee. The application fee will vary depending on the school and your financial circumstances.

    • 4

Apply for a residence permit for a non-EU citizen. To enter Denmark as a student, you must first obtain a residency permit. You can access the application for student residency at the Danish Immigration Service's website or by applying in person at the Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C. The application requires that an official at the selected university also fill out one part of the application. Make sure you leave enough time for those documents to be exchanged and completed.
