Free Trips for Teachers

Free international travel programs are available for teachers who want to gain new experiences and a new perspective on the subjects they teach. Group leaders who accompany paying participants travel free. Another option for free travel is a teacher exchange program, which enables a teacher to spend a semester or a year abroad. Also, outstanding teachers can qualify for grants in recognition of their teaching accomplishments.
  1. The Fulbright Program

    • The Fulbright Program, which operates in 155 countries around the world, offers two programs for outstanding teachers to travel and teach abroad. The Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange Program enables teachers to exchange teaching positions for a semester or a year. By living and teaching in another country, teachers offer a fresh perspective to their foreign students, and they gain insights that they can bring back to their students at home. The Distinguished Fulbright Award in Teaching Program promotes excellence in teaching worldwide. Twenty-four distinguished teachers receive grants to study abroad, conduct research, teach classes or workshops and develop projects related to their area of teaching.

    ACIS

    • ACIS provides free travel to global conferences for group leaders who take six full-paying students. First-time group leaders need only five participants in order to travel free. Choose from travel destinations such as Thailand, Paris or Hawaii. Conferences include airfare, accommodations and breakfasts. Group leaders are eligible to receive cash stipends based on the number of participants in their groups.

    EF Educational Tours

    • EF Educational Tours are available to destinations throughout Europe, China, Japan , Australia, Egypt, Morocco, Mexico and Costa Rica. To prepare for taking students abroad, new EF group leaders take a free international training tour to Paris, Rome, Beijing, Berlin or Madrid. They experience a tour before taking their students abroad and gain valuable advice from group leaders and EF staff. These tours include round-trip international airfare, transportation while on tour, hotel accommodations, daily breakfast and dinner, training seminars, guided sightseeing tours and a full-time EF tour director.

    NETC Educational Travel

    • Free International Teacher Conventions enable teachers to meet other teachers throughout the world and discover new places and cultures. Travel is free for teachers who enroll six students on their tours. Cash stipends and additional free travel for chaperons can also be earned. Additionally, free travel insurance and free international cell phones are provided. Destinations include Rio de Janeiro, Cairo, Copenhagen, London, Madrid, Nice and Rome.
