How to Go Back for a Second Bachelor's Degree

Some people may say a second bachelor's degree isn't practical. But in some cases, it may be a smart move. Perhaps you are going into a field such as psychology -- where it is helpful to not only have extended knowledge of psychology -- but sociology, and other associated sciences as well. Some people pursue a first bachelor's degree eagerly, only to find later that their passion for the subject has faded. Nursing programs in particular, change over the years and additional degrees only help your credentials. Whatever the reason may be, it is never too late to go back to school and pursue your goals.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a university or four-year college, where you plan to pursue your second bachelor's degree. Contact the admissions department of your university and speak to them about their policy on applying as a post-baccalaureate with a degree, since every school is different.

    • 2

Contact the school where you received your first bachelor's degree, and ask for a copy of your transcript. Ensure that the transcript shows your grades and your graduating GPA, since most schools will require at least a 2.5 GPA and good academic standing upon graduation.

    • 3

Fill out an undergrad application with all the required paperwork -- usually an admissions essay -- and send them to the admissions department of the school you plan to attend. Fill out just the application, if you are attending the same school where you received your first degree, since the school should have access to your records.

    • 4

Fill out financial aid paperwork, if necessary. Apply for as many grants as you can, since grants do not need to be paid back. Set up your financial aid account, and an account with a lender through your school.
