How to Analyze Educational Research Articles

Educational research articles are written about a specific aspect of the education system, or education in general. When you analyze one of these papers, you are taking an in-depth look at the article and at the subject the article discusses. An analysis not only looks at the paper itself, but at the topic and the position that the article takes.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the paper straight through. Make notes in the margins or on a separate piece of paper whenever there is something that strikes you, or if there is something you do not understand. The notes will help you have a better understanding of the article.

    • 2

Write down what you feel is the main thesis, or idea, of the education research article. This is probably listed in the beginning of the article or very close to it.

    • 3

Reread the article. This time, write down statements that you feel are proofs of the educational research thesis you have found. Most likely, the author of the article wrote a thesis statement and then explained it with several main points. Write down these points.

    • 4

Write a short paragraph that lists the thesis statement and the proofs or ideas that the author presented that relate back to that statement.

    • 5

Analyze the paragraph you have written. In your analysis, write about whether or not you believe that the paper's thesis is true. Once you understand what the paper is discussing, you can address the reasons why and whether or not you agree.
