About Kaplan College Requirements

Known for its test preparatory courses and textbooks, Kaplan has also created Kaplan College, which offers a wealth of degrees in many practical and educational fields, including information technology, health care and criminal justice. Just be sure you have your paperwork in order and understand the admissions requirements for your program before you begin the admissions process.
  1. Purpose

    • Kaplan College is a well-known online institute that allows high school graduates to further their education from their homes. This type of program is extremely useful for anyone who has major responsibilities at home, such as a full-time job or a family to care for, although anyone may enroll in the college as long as they meet a few minimum requirements. In addition to the popular online classes, Kaplan also maintains college campuses in 10 states, including California, Nevada, Arizona and Washington.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Kaplan College applicants must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent, including a General Education Development (GED) certificate or Home Study certificate. Copies of these certificates, which can include a high school diploma, high school transcript that includes the date of graduation, a high school proficiency exam, a GED certificate or a college transcript that displays the date of high school graduation, must be presented to Kaplan prior to admission. Those in the military can also present a copy of their DD214 military records, which should indicate whether the individual has passed high school or not.

    Age Requirements

    • Like any other college, Kaplan College applicants are typically at least 18 years old. Some 17-year-olds may be accepted if they can prove that they have graduated from high school or its equivalent. Applicants over the age of 18 may apply to Kaplan even if they haven't obtained their high school diploma if they can demonstrate their ability to benefit (ATB) from attending Kaplan and can pass an entrance exam. Those younger than 18 must obtain their parents' permission before enrolling in Kaplan. They can do this by having a parent or legal guardian sign an Enrollment Agreement, which is provided by Kaplan.

    Degree Requirements

    • Kaplan College offers Associate's and Bachelor's degrees, as well as certificates and diplomas for programs and coursework completed. Kaplan offers 22 different fields, many of which, such as HVAC Electrical Construction, may have prerequisites or exams one must pass before applying.

    Application

    • Aside from providing proof of a high school diploma or its equivalent, a Kaplan College candidate must complete an online self-assessment test and an informational interview, which is held over the phone. The applicant must also provide his contact information on the online nomination form, which can be accessed by visiting KaplanCollege.com. Those applying to a degree program, as opposed to a certificate program, may also be required to take an entrance exam and write an essay outlining how this program will help him achieve his career goals.
