The UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television is one of the most recognized collegiate television production colleges in the U.S. The school has the advantage of being located near major television studios, which gives students immediate access to major internships. Courses required and available for students interested in television production include American Television History, Television and Video Production, Directing the Camera and Screenwriting Fundamentals. Incoming freshmen or transfer students must first complete two years of general college studies before applying for the upper division film and television studies program. Applicants must submit official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a two-page personal essay, a three-page critical essay and a five-page creative writing sample. There is also a graduate program in School of Theater, Film and Television.

NYU's Tisch School of Arts offers an undergraduate study in film and television. Available courses in television production include Intermediate and Advanced Television Workshop, Children's Television Production Workshop and even BBC Television Production for those students who wish to study abroad in England. Freshman or transfer and graduate applicants apply to the Tisch School by submitting a regular application for admission and completing the "Special Admission Requirements" which list additional admissions materials required for applicants to the Tisch program.
