Before a college admissions interview, the interviewee should do some homework. In order to show that the interviewee has prepared and is excited about the opportunity to get accepted into the school, she should know a bit about what the school has to offer. The interviewer will almost certainly ask why the interviewee wants to attend the school. Knowing about some of the academic programs offered along with the history of the school will demonstrate that this school is special to the interviewee. The interviewee should also review her application and think about any prior experiences that make her an ideal candidate. Preparing ideas for answers to questions that most likely will come about past experiences will make the interview go smoother.
The interviewee should talk about the future and what he hopes to accomplish while at school. The college or university wants the best students to enroll, so the interviewee should show excitement about the opportunities that are available at the school. Remaining positive throughout the interview will show that the interviewee wants to be in the interview and wants to be accepted to the school. It shows he will take advantage and be proactive during his college career. Being negative and talking about hating different aspects of school or life will do the opposite.
Interviewees should dress professionally. The interviewer will want to see that the interviewee is serious about the interview and admission to the school. Proper dress plays a key role. While dressing properly might not get the interviewee accepted, dressing poorly could get her rejected. Proper dress depends on the school. At some schools, wearing a full suit might be appropriate while at others, business casual would be acceptable. Doing research about the school environment and atmosphere will help to answer what types of clothes should be worn.
The interviewee should act like himself. This means he should not answers question in a way that he thinks the interviewer wants to hear. Instead he should answer honestly. He will come off more genuine this way and can show more passion in his answers. The interview is also a chance for the interviewee to determine if the school is right for him. Answering the questions honestly might mean that he is not admitted to the school but it could be because the interviewer felt this school did not mesh well with his personality. In the long run, finding the right school for the interviewee is the most important.
