Failing the HOBET Test in Arizona

The HOBET, or Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test, is an indicator of your proficiency level in mathematics, reading comprehension and critical analytical skills. Even if your scores on the HOBET in Arizona are lower than you want them to be, you can still learn something from them.
  1. HOBET Scores

    • The HOBET measures your math and science reading skills compared to other students in Arizona. A low or failing score simply means you need to bring your academic skills up to speed.

    Delayed Admission

    • Some Arizona community colleges, including Mohave Community College, rely on HOBET results to indicate readiness for admission to certain health occupation programs. If your scores are low, you might have to wait to start your program and work on your basic skills first.

    Recommended Coursework

    • Some students do well with some parts of the HOBET and get failing scores in others. Most Arizona colleges that administer the test will give you a printout recommending specific courses to prepare you for the parts you failed.

    HOBET Retest

    • Many Arizona testing centers have rules in place to limit how soon you can retake HOBET and similar tests. If you earn a failing score and you plan to retest, take it on the earliest date you are eligible to do so.
