How to Quote an Article in a Term Paper

Almost all college students will have to write a term paper at one time or another. A good term paper uses facts to back up arguments, and newspaper articles are an ideal to find reliable information to quote from. If you do quote from an article, you must properly set up the quote in the term paper and cite the name of the newspaper of magazine that the information came from, which is easy to do once you know how.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the content you're borrowing into the body of your term paper. If you're using a direct quote, make sure to put the quote in quotation marks. Finish the borrowed information with a comma, not a period.

    • 2

Write the words 'according to' after the borrowed information from an article.

    • 3

Write the title of the article after the words 'according to.' Put quotation marks around the full title.

    • 4

Write the word 'from the' after the title, and then write the name of the newspaper, book or magazine that the article was from. Put the name of the publication in italics.
