    Stanford University

    • The Graduate School of Business at Stanford University was tied with Harvard for the top spot in the "U.S. News & World Report" rankings. Similar to Harvard, Stanford offers multiple fields of study as part of its Ph.D. program. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged at Stanford and is the norm for many Ph.D. candidates, but specializations are offered within fields such as finance, accounting, political economics, economic analysis and policy, organizational behavior, marketing and operations, and information and technology. Because of the interdisciplinary emphasis of the Stanford program, students can pursue studies across disciplines in other departments and schools such as the law school or departments of psychology or social science, among others.

    Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    • The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is well known for its various doctoral degrees in fields such as engineering and physics. What is often overlooked, however, is that MIT also has one of the nation's outstanding business schools. Concentrations within the MIT Ph.D. program can be found in three broad categories: economics, finance and accounting; management science; and behavioral and policy studies. Within each of these categories, several primary concentrations are offered. Management science encompasses marketing, information technologies, systems dynamics and operations management. On the other hand, finance and accounting and control fall under the category of economics, finance and accounting. Lastly, the behavioral and policy sciences programs include studies in global economics and management, economic sociology, organization studies, work and employment research and technology innovation, strategic management and entrepreneurship.
