A Doctor of Philosophy degree program in mathematics education provides advanced research opportunities for students who are interesting in becoming mathematicians who work as faculty members at academic institutions, mathematics curriculum specialists in school settings or even specialists in mathematics education in private sectors. The Ph.D. in mathematics education focuses on curriculum design and teaching, while doctoral programs in pure mathematics do not have this component.
