List of Universities That Offer an MD/PhD in Pharmacology

Students wishing to pursue a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in pharmacology generally spend their first two years in pre-clinical medical courses. According to Edward Inscho, Ph.D., of the Medical College of Georgia, "The M.D./Ph.D. programs attempts to provide a relatively efficient scenario for training of students with broad expertise in both medicine and basic sciences."
  1. University of Pittsburgh

    • Those students entered in this school's M.D./Ph.D. program receive advanced accreditation for medical school courses as well as laboratory rotations finished before enrollment. M.D./Ph.D. students must complete their comprehensive examination during their first year of study. During the first two years, incoming graduate students complete formal coursework, with research beginning in the first year. All students must pass basic graduate levels courses in various sciences before advancing to study in neuropharmacology, vascular biology and pharmacology, receptor pharmacology and molecular cardiovascular pharmacology. The graduate student-to-faculty ratio is two to one.
