Located in Atlanta, Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health offers PhD programs in biostatistics, epidemiology, health policy and management, health services and nutrition and health sciences. The epidemiology public health PhD program focuses on the “development of analytic processes of epidemiology applied to a broad scope of conceptual issues and actual health problems in areas such as chronic diseases, infectious diseases, reproductive health and nutrition,” according to the school’s website. Degrees generally take four to five years and require completion of 24 credits and 24 research hours. Required classes include analytical foundations of epidemiology, longitudinal data analysis and biostatistical methods.

Georgia Southern University’s College of Public Health, located in Statesboro, offers three doctorate degrees in public health. Program options include biostatistics, public health leadership, and community health behavior and education. According to the school’s website, the program prepares students to contribute to “an effective public health workforce” through training and experience in biostatistics, environmental health, health services administration and behavioral sciences. The degree requires 63 credit hours to complete. Coursework is based on community-based and participatory research, public health funding and grant writing, and planning and evaluation. Students must complete a supervised, 250-hour, hands-on internship and complete a data-based dissertation project.
