Texas PhD Programs in Industrial & Labor Relations

Understanding industrial and labor relations, referred to as management science, is beneficial if you plan to become a business-school professor or researcher, start your own business or work in the administration of a corporation, union or other business. There are several relevant doctorate programs at Texas universities that may help you deepen your understanding of and appreciation for the employment relationship. Ph.D. programs are generally five years in length and require a dissertation.

    • Texas A&M University's Mays Business School offers a doctoral program in management. Students choose a specialization, one of which is human resource management. The program teaches students how to conduct research in the field, communicate their research findings in published reports and in the classroom and use analytical and critical research and thinking skills in their future careers. The human resources specialization introduces students to the development, adoption, implementation, practice and evaluation of recruitment, selection, staffing and performance appraisal methods.

    University of Texas at Dallas

    • The University of Texas at Dallas' School of Management offers a Ph.D. program in management science designed to help students become capable of producing original industrial and labor relations research for academia and the corporate industry. The school also offers a Ph.D. in international management studies for students interested in learning about global management strategies and cultural differences in industrial and labor relations issues.

    University of Texas at Austin

    • The University of Texas at Austin offers a Ph.D. in management through its McCombs School of Business. Students may choose to specialize in organizations and strategy, organization science or strategic management. The program's focus is on research and students are expected to contribute original research to the management industry, teach management classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels and serve the academic field of management in some capacity after graduation. The latter expectation may be fulfilled by serving on an editorial review board of a management publication or serving as an officer of a management organization.
