Can an employer force you to use your vacation pay for comp?

Generally speaking, an employer cannot force an employee to use vacation pay for comp unless it is clearly laid out in an employment contract or agreement. Comp time is time off from work that is given in exchange for overtime hours worked. Vacation pay, on the other hand, is a benefit typically given to employees to use at their discretion for time off. As such, unless it is specifically agreed to by both the employee and employer, an employer cannot require an employee to use vacation pay for comp time.
