How to File Your FAFSA if You Are Separated

The FAFSA is the free application for federal student aid. College students interested in applying for financial aid for the school year file a FAFSA with the federal government to determine whether or not they qualify for financial aid. Several aspects help determine the amount of financial support you qualify for, including your marital status, adjusted gross income and the number of dependents you have. If you are married but separated from your spouse, you must note that on your FAFSA.
