How to File a FAFSA Without Your Parents if You Are Under 23

The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This form enables you to apply for student aid such as grants through federal and state programs, loans and work-study programs. To fill out a FAFSA form you need to either obtain a paper application or fill out an online FAFSA. In order to do this you will need certain information such as your social security number, the names of the schools you want the information released to and typically your parents' tax information, if you are a dependent student. To be considered independent, you must meet certain criteria if under the age of 23.
