Find the Estimated Family Contribution on page 3 of your SAR. The data you supply on your application goes through a needs analysis formula called the Federal Methodology. This formula determines your EFC, or how much you or your family is able to contribute to your college expenses, and thus determines how much aid you can get. The lowest possible EFC is zero; the lower your EFC, the more financial aid you will receive.
Read over your personal information in the SAR. This is the information you submitted. If you find any mistakes, correct them and report the changes to your university's financial aid department.
Check to see if there is an asterisk or "*" next to your EFC. This is a sign that you have been selected for verification. Your schools will ask for copies of information such as tax forms and Social Security documents to verify your EFC in later correspondence. A standard policy is to verify most incoming students.
