How to Get an NBA Scholarship

Scholarships provide valuable opportunities and financial assistance to students wanting to attend college. The National Business Association is a nonprofit organization of small business owners and entrepreneurs that offers a scholarship program to deserving students as part of its package of membership benefits. Scholarships are awarded annually for tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment related to coursework. A strong personal essay and above average academic record will enhance your chances of obtaining an NBA scholarship.

Instructions

Visit the NBA website (NationalBusiness.org) and click "Benefits" then "Scholarship Program" to review the eligibility requirements. You must be a high school senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior, and a dues-paying member of the NBA or the son or daughter of a dues-paying member whose membership is current when the scholarship is announced. Applications are accepted from January 1 to April 1 of every year.

Review the criteria used to select scholarship winners. The NBA selection committee evaluates community involvement, extracurricular activities and academic record as well as your personal essay.

Download an application form from the website. Complete the form, which asks you to provide information such as your name and address, the NBA member name and ID, high school GPA, class rank, ACT or SAT composite scores and your community and volunteer experience.

Write a personal essay based on the prompt provided that illustrates why you would make a good candidate for the scholarship. Expound upon your community service, academic record and unique qualities and characteristics that set you apart from other other candidates. This is an important part of the application that gives the selection committee insight into what makes you special.

Obtain a strong recommendation letter. Select someone who has known you for several years, such as a teacher or member of a volunteer organization who can attest to your personal qualities and abilities.
