How to Find Out If You Qualify for MEAP Money

Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) is administered by the Michigan Department of Treasury and is designed to help defray the costs of education. In order to qualify to receive a merit-based award for MEAP, you must apply for the the Michigan Merit Award. The reward pays for approved expenses of a post-secondary institution. The annual deadline for the application is Nov. 15.

      Graduate from high school. You must possess a high school diploma or GED.

      Prove residency in the state of Michigan or gradate from a Michigan high school.

      Take MEAP high school tests in math, reading, science and writing. Score Level 1 or Level 2 on all four test or score Level 1 or Level 2 on two tests, and score in the 75th percentile or above on the ACT or SAT or received a qualifying score on the ACT Work Keys job skills assessment test.

      Certify and select a payment option by Nov. 15. There are two different payment options: $2,500 in one lump sum, or two payments of $1,250 paid over the course of the semester.
