Pell Grants for Barber Schools

Pell grants are one type of financial aid provided directly by the federal government to help pay for your education beyond high school. Pell grants are need-based grants to help cover tuition and fees, and do not have to be repaid. In 2009 the maximum grant was $5,350 for a year, including summer, with an average of $3,611. The amounts change annually depending on how much money is appropriated by Congress.

While most of the money from the Pell grant programs goes to students at community colleges and universities, it can also cover the cost of going to an approved trade school such as a barber college. There are about 5,400 participating schools around the country. The amount you can get is based on your family's income and the school's tuition. To qualify you first fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form. Most states have barber schools that are eligible to receive Pell grants.
