How to Get Free Money for a Military Spouse to Go to College

If you are a military spouse of an active duty service member, you may qualify for up to $4000 in financial aid towards education. This is grant money, not a loan, so you won't ever have to pay it back.

First, log onto the MilitaryOneSource website (militaryonesource.com). Select the applicable military branch and select "Career and Education." Follow the link to "MyCAA" (My Career Advancement Account) and create an account. Once you create your account, you should receive a confirmation email stating whether you qualify.

Choose your college, if you haven't done so already. You will need to make sure your college is approved through MyCAA; you will also have to enroll in your class before you submit it through MyCAA for payment. The grant can be used towards some online courses as well as traditional classes, so check with an advisor at your college for details.

Print the approval from MyCAA and send it to your school before the start date of your class. If your school does not have it by the time your class begins, you will not be able to take the class using the grant money.
