Universities & Colleges for Computer Graphic Specialists

Computer graphic specialists are also called graphic designers or graphic artists. Their job can involve creating the layout and design of magazines, newspapers and other publications, creating promotional displays, brochures, product packages and business logos. To do this, computer graphic specialists use a variety of computer techniques including photography, animation, illustration and color. Computer graphic specialists should be creative and usually need a college degree to work in the field. There are many universities and colleges offering computer graphic degree programs.
  1. Mount Wachusett Community College

    • Mount Wachusett Community College offers a computer graphic design degree for print or web. These programs are designed to give students the knowledge and skills needed to produce web sites and publications. Students in these degree programs complete 62 or 64 credit hours of course work. Required classes for both programs include design theory, digital imaging, electronic illustration and creative web design. Students pursing the print degree program also will take classes that include typography in visual communication, publication design and print production for designers. Additional course work for web program students includes communication in multimedia design, introduction to animation and design for E-commerce. Other required courses for both programs include English, math and business, science and humanities electives.

    Kankakee Community College

    • Kankakee Community College (KCC) offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in computer graphic design that prepares graduates for graphic arts and desktop publishing work. Sixty-seven credit hours are needed to obtain the degree. Students take five general education classes in math, communication, physical science and social science. Sixteen classes make up the core curriculum and include course work in desktop publishing, art and computers and technical electives. Classes include digital photography, digital motion graphics, document design and portfolio development. Students also complete an internship.

      KCC also offers a computer graphic design certificate program. It follows the same academic path as the associate program but only requires 39 credit hours for graduation. Students in the certificate program do not have to take general education classes or technical electives and do not have to complete an internship.

    Coleman University

    • Coleman University in San Diego offers an Associate of Science degree and Bachelor of Science degree in computer graphic design. Students in these programs are given tools and techniques to apply creative thinking to work in the field of computer graphics. General course work can include introduction to writing and technical writing, communications, humanities, business organization and law, critical thinking and ethics. Core program course work includes the history and principles of graphic design, web design and animation, illustration, package design and a senior project.
