Equine Business Management Schools

If you are interested in working in the horse industry, an equine business management major will prepare you for many positions both directly related to the animals, such as barn management, and those indirectly related, such as work at a horse-product company. Both bachelor's and associate's degrees are available.
  1. Johnson & Wales University--Providence campus

    • The Providence campus of Johnson & Wales University offers two bachelor's degree programs in equine business management, one without a riding component and one with. The program without a riding component is designed for those who want to work in the horse industry indirectly, while the program with riding instruction is for those who want to work directly with horses. The major is based at a 31-acre farm in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.

    Cazenovia College

    • Based at a 243-acre farm five miles from the main campus, the Equine Business Management specialization at Cazenovia College requires riding lessons for students and an internship for the senior project. The courses range from how to run horse shows to equine reproduction. The farm even has its own breeding program.

    Centenary College

    • At Centenary College, equine business management is a concentration within the bachelor of science in equine studies degree program. The equine courses are offered at the college's equestrian center in Long Valley, New Jersey. The courses in the concentration are for those interested in indirectly working in the horse industry. Study abroad and internships are offered, and students are strongly encouraged to participate during courses of study.

    Midway College

    • For those interested in working directly with horses, the bachelor of arts in equine studies with a concentration in applied equine management offered at Midway College provides hands-on horse experience, ranging from nutrition to behavior as well as business practices. There are also several minors, such as in equine journalism, that students can choose from.

    Northwest College

    • At Northwest College, the equine business management program offers an associate of applied sience degree. This program is predominantly for those wanting to work indirectly in the industry. The school's equestrian program is based at an 8-acre facility very near the college's main campus so that students can easily walk to the barn.

    University of Louisville

    • The Equine Industry Program is a part of the University of Louisville's College of Business that is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-International. Besides a bachelor's degree, the school offers a graduate certificate, which is a program that requires less coursework than a master's degree. The University of Louisville's program is especially for those wanting to work indirectly with horses, as the school does not have an equestrian center for teaching hands-on coursework.

    St. Andrews Presbyterian College

    • As the equine business management program at St. Andrews Presbyterian College includes required riding lessons along with the business and equine courses, the program can be a good choice for those wanting to work directly with horses. Many of the equine courses are taught at the school's equestrian center, which consists of over 300 acres. Students are encouraged to complete an internship while at the school.

    University of Findlay

    • The University of Findlay offers the bachelor of science in equine business management as a double-major option for equestrian studies students, or it can be taken alone. With the equestrian studies double major, students can prepare to work directly with horses, or by taking the major alone, students can prepare for an indirect career in the horse industry. Courses are offered at one of two of equine facilities, the 32-acre English farm or the 150-acre Center for Equine & Pre-Veterinary Sciences.
