The University of Texas’ Health Science Center in San Antonio has a fellowship training program in forensic odontology that is designed to be completed in no more than 14 months. Students can complete the required 220 contact hours on either a continuous basis or a period basis. Although no academic credit is offered for completion of this program, students receive a certificate of completion and hour-for-hour continuing education credit. Topics covered throughout the fellowship include imaging principles and interpretation; bite mark analysis and interpretation; dental identification of human remains; overview of forensic physical anthropology; and the practical and principle aspects of the relation to the legal system.

McGill University has a forensic dentistry program that blends practical theory and education with hands-on practice opportunities. The academic, practical theory portion of this continuing education course is administered online and consists of the first three modules. The fourth and fifth modules are conducted on-site during an intensive course that lasts for one week. In order, the five modules in this course include identification, mass disaster management, bite mark evidence, identification practicum and bite mark practicum. The first two modules last for seven weeks each, the third module is a 10-week program and the fourth and fifth modules last for one week each. The entire course is completed in one academic year.
